Mamma Luciana's

Mamma Luciana's-Florida Road

If you are looking for an old-school Italian place, with the classic red and white checked tablecloths and an Afrikaans waiter who treats you like an Italian one (loud and full of naughty jokes) then you must try Mamma Luciana's at the end of Florida Rd.

This tiny restaurant might be cluttered with tables but the food is outstanding and the atmosphere cheesy but completely loveable.

The menu is full of pastas, pizzas (classic and other-wise) and for those strange non-italian eaters, you can find seafood, steak and chicken options which are equally delicious. Wine flows by the carafe. Basically you can't go wrong if you are looking for a big, wholesome meal (if you're on a diet, maybe give this a skip).

Mains range from about R49-R99 and there is a medium option for those who are just looking for a little taste. The service is good (especially if you get the Afrikaans guy) and food comes out quite quickly. We were there last night-which was packed (for a Monday night this is unheard of in Durban) but our food came out in 15 minutes. That's not to say the food was undercooked. I had the "Avril's" which is a calamari and prawn pasta in a napoli sauce. AMAzing!

Weekly specials ensure this place is always packed:

Monday nights-1/2 price pasta
Tuesday nights-ladies night (1/2 price any main meal for the ladies)
Wednesday nights-1/2 price pizza
Sundays-1/2 price bottles of wine

There is another Mamma Luciana's in Durban North but this is the original, its like Vegas versus Rome, you want the real deal. Ths is the one where seating space is limited and there's a mural of a bay on the wall. (its as real as it gets)

Parking is not ideal but your evening will definitely be worth the annoying car guard.
